Arrests Made in Tomb Raiders Case Following Desecration in West Berbice

Authorities have taken two individuals into custody for their alleged involvement in the desecration of a tomb at Murphy Dam Cemetery, Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice. The incident, which occurred between March 17th and 19th, 2024, shocked the community and prompted swift action from law enforcement.

At approximately 12:30 hrs on Thursday, police officers from Regional Division #5 responded to Lot 41 McKenzie Street, Murphy Dam, Rosignol Village, where they encountered Khalil Madramootoo, alias “Prito,” a 31-year-old Fisherman residing at the address. Madramootoo was promptly arrested and questioned regarding the tomb desecration.

During police interrogation, Madramootoo confessed to his involvement in the gruesome act. He implicated Lindon Davis, also known as ‘Mama G,’ a 38-year-old Fisherman from McKenzie Street, Murphy Dam, as the primary perpetrator. Madramootoo claimed that Davis had broken into the tomb, leading to the theft of approximately $28,000 in cash from the coffin.

Subsequently, Davis was apprehended by authorities, although he vehemently denied any participation in the crime. Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations into the disturbing incident continue.

The desecration targeted the tomb of Muneshwar Jawahir, a 52-year-old resident of Rosignol, who was laid to rest at Murphy Dam cemetery on February 9, 2024. The reprehensible act has sparked outrage in the community and raised concerns about the sanctity of burial grounds.

Law enforcement officials are working diligently to uncover further details surrounding the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The community awaits developments in the investigation as authorities strive to uphold the dignity and respect owed to the deceased and their families.
