In a collaborative effort, officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force conducted a successful operation on January 12, 2024, in the Crabwood Creek area, Corentyne Berbice. The operation resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected cannabis.
During the operation, CANU/Guyana Police Force officers observed two males loading bulky parcels onto a boat that was moored at the time. Upon realizing the presence of law enforcement, the individuals attempted to flee the scene. While one suspect was successfully apprehended by officers, the other managed to evade capture.
A subsequent search of the boat uncovered several bulky parcels containing a substance suspected to be cannabis. The apprehended suspect, identified as Anthony Sugrim of Crabwood Creek, was previously arrested by CANU on August 11, 2023. He was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters, along with the seized narcotics.
The suspected narcotics underwent testing and tested positive for cannabis, weighing approximately 204 lbs. (92.6kg). Investigations into the matter are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation and identify any potential accomplices.
Anthony Sugrim is now in custody, and authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drug-related activities in the Crabwood Creek area.
CANU and the Guyana Police Force remain dedicated to the fight against drug trafficking, and operations of this nature are crucial in deterring and disrupting illegal activities within the country.
