In a heartfelt message commemorating the vibrant festival of Phagwah, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has emphasized the importance of fostering a society free from discrimination and filled with deep-rooted respect and love for one another.

President Ali urged the nation to let the joyous festivities of Phagwah serve as a symbol of unity, emphasizing that discrimination based on skin color, hair texture, or religion has no place in Guyanese society.

“As we celebrate Phagwah, let it serve as a manifestation of our shared respect and love while also signaling that we do not judge one another by the color of our skin. Let us reaffirm our commitment to building a united Guyana,” President Ali stated in his message on Monday.

He underscored the government’s commitment to creating a country where individuals of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and cultures can thrive, calling on all Guyanese to embrace the spirit of inclusivity, equality, and respect not just during Phagwah but every day.

Acknowledging the significance of Phagwah for Hindus and its broader symbolism of the victory of good over evil, President Ali highlighted the festival’s role in marking the arrival of Spring—a season of renewal and rejuvenation.

“Phagwah holds immense religious significance for Hindus. It marks the victory of good over evil. This festival also signifies the arrival of Spring, a season of renewal and rejuvenation, where nature bursts forth in vibrant colors, mirroring the hues of Phagwah celebrations,” he remarked.

President Ali emphasized that Phagwah transcends religious boundaries, symbolizing the dissolution of cultural and racial barriers and promoting unity and harmony among all Guyanese.

“The showering of colorful powders and the sprinkling of liquids not only add to the merriment but also serve as a reminder that in celebrating Phagwah, we embrace our shared humanity,” he concluded, urging everyone to embrace the spirit of Phagwah and work together towards building a One Guyana where every individual can flourish.
