Fugitive Akeem Wong Fatally Shot by Joint Services in Essequibo River Region

Today, at around 13:40 hrs, a team of Joint Services members, led by Major Bridgelall, encountered and fatally shot prison escapee and double-murder suspect Akeem Wong at ‘Groete Creek’ Backdam in the Essequibo River, Region #7.

Wong had escaped from the Mazaruni Prison on February 15, 2024, and had been evading capture since then. Upon sighting the ranks, Wong emerged from nearby bushes wielding a cutlass and charged towards them. In response, the Joint Services members fired upon him, resulting in fatal wounds.

Wong was subsequently relieved of his weapon, and his body was escorted to Bartica Hospital for further processing.

During the scene investigation, the following items were found on Wong and in the surrounding area: One cutlass $4700 Guyana Currency 3 Sim cards 1 flash drive and memory card One pair of scissors 4 cigarettes One flashlight with batteries One fishing hook 100 Canadian dollars One cellular phone One lighter The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities work to gather further details surrounding Wong’s escape and subsequent confrontation with law enforcement.
