Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) announced on Friday that Lena ‘Aunty Lena’ Narine, a well-known resident of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, and self-described businesswoman, has been convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment for possession of cocaine with intent to traffic.
Magistrate Rondel Weever also imposed a fine of GY$17.1 million on Narine.
According to CANU, Narine was found guilty of trafficking 11.4 kilograms of cocaine. She was apprehended along with two others in March 2023 at her residence on Shantiniketan Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, where the cocaine was seized. The street value of the confiscated cocaine was estimated at GY$12.5 million.

It’s noteworthy that Narine was already on High Court bail for another drug-related case, having been found with 1.050 kilograms of cocaine in January 2023.
