Significant progress has been made on the $1.4 billion Port Kaituma stelling project, with approximately 85 percent of the work already completed, according to recent reports.

Once finalized, this modern infrastructure will serve as a vital transit point for citizens across Region One, offering a safer and more convenient travel experience. Moreover, it is expected to alleviate transportation challenges and facilitate the efficient delivery of goods to the region, thereby stimulating economic growth in the North-West area.

The Port Kaituma stelling, equipped with cutting-edge facilities, is poised to transform the docking experience for vessels like the MV MA Lisha, which has been operating at Independence Road, Port Kaituma since last year, catering to the transportation needs of the North-West district.

Currently, the construction progress stands at 96 percent completion for the passenger terminal building and 95 percent for the storage bond. Additionally, the stelling itself is now 80 percent finished.

Construction activities for this ambitious project began on January 17, 2023, and are anticipated to conclude by April 17, 2024.

Led by International Import and Supplies, this endeavor underscores the commitment of the PPP/C Administration to ensure comprehensive infrastructural development across all regions of Guyana.

Furthermore, similar initiatives are underway at Kingston Goods Wharf in Mabaruma and Morawhanna to accommodate the new roll-on, roll-off ferry system.

To support these efforts, the government has allocated approximately $2.5 billion from the supplementary fund for the retrofitting of these stellings, reflecting a strategic investment in the nation’s transportation and logistics infrastructure.
