In a proactive operation, the Police in Regional Division No.2 conducted a search at the residence of an 18-year-old labourer in Onderneeming/Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Acting on received information, the young man was contacted regarding suspicions of possessing Arms and Ammunition. During the search, two cellphones (an iPhone and a Samsung phone) were discovered at the residence, and it was confirmed that these devices did not belong to the young man. According to his statement to investigators, the phones were given to him by a friend.

Upon further inquiry, the labourer informed the Police that the same ‘friend’ had also entrusted him with a shotgun for safekeeping. He willingly guided the police to an area in his home where he pointed out a ‘sal bag.’ Subsequently, the salt bag was opened in his presence, revealing a 12-gauge shotgun with the serial number intentionally filed off.
