Students and educators in Matarkai, Region One (Barima-Waini) are set to benefit from improved educational services following the commissioning of a new $25 million education office in the community of Oronoque. The ceremony, held on Sunday, was graced by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, accompanied by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal.

The newly constructed building is designed to accommodate two education officers, two school welfare officers, staff from the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), and other support personnel from the Department of Education. Prior to this development, the education staff operated from the Regional Administration’s conference room, facing challenges due to space constraints.

Minister Parag emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening the education system by ensuring necessary infrastructure is in place to support quality education delivery. The new facility will serve as a hub to enhance education delivery in the region, aiming to improve pass rates and efficiency among educators.

Minister Croal highlighted the government’s efforts to prioritize resources for service delivery, particularly in response to the region’s growing population. Cabinet recently approved fast-tracking extensions to schools in Region One, aiming to ensure universal access to secondary education and enhance the quality of education provided.

“We want to see our students attending school and getting better grades. We are investing in teachers, we are investing in facilities, we need you to do your part,” noted Minister Croal, emphasizing the collective responsibility in ensuring educational success.

The construction of the new building aligns with the government’s commitment to providing access to quality education for all children. Minister Parag reiterated the importance of extending such infrastructure initiatives across the region to ensure equitable access to education for every child.

Constructed by AAV Ragobeer and Sons Contracting Services, the new education office signifies a significant step towards enhancing educational services and infrastructure in Matarkai, ultimately contributing to the region’s educational development and progress.
