Motorcyclist who struck down Police officer at Houston roadblock arrested

Police have arrested the speeding motorcyclist who struck down and injured a Police officer while trying to evade a roadblock on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Saturday.

In a statement, Police Headquarters said ranks attached to Regional Division 4A were conducting a stop and search exercise.

At around 02:05hrs, the motorcyclist, who was riding motorcycle CL 6778, was being urged to stop by one of the ranks, who had a reflector in his hand.

But the motorcyclist failed to adhere to the Police order and picked up speed, crashing into one of the ranks in his bid to escape.

As a result of the collision, both the officer and the motorcyclist was injured.

They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where they were examined by medical personnel who deemed their injuries not to be life-threatening.

They were both treated and sent away.

However, Police Headquarters said the motorcyclist was arrested and his motorcycle was lodged. He remains in custody.

The incident was captured on traffic cameras in the area.
