It is with deep sorrow that the Miss Universe Guyana Committee announces the passing of their Assistant Director, Toni Burnett. Toni departed from this world on Friday, March 8, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family and friends, following a sudden cardiac arrest.
She was laid to rest in Washington, DC, on Friday, March 15, 2024. Born on February 28, 1989, to Guyanese parents Caroline Burnett and Eric Smith, Toni’s life was marked by remarkable achievements and contributions to the fashion and pageant industries.
Throughout her career, Toni established herself as a force to be reckoned with, working with some of the nation’s leading fashion brands and securing prestigious pageant titles such as Miss Guyana (2010), Miss Caribbean Metro USA (2010), Ms. Maryland United States (2017), and Ms. United States 2017. Her expertise extended beyond the stage, as she also led and coached numerous fashion runway shows across the United States and the Caribbean. Additionally, Toni dedicated herself to mentoring countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the modeling and pageant communities.
Toni is survived by her son, her parents, and her loving extended family. Her vibrant personality, infectious humor, and boundless love endeared her to all who knew her.
Though she may have left this world, Toni’s spirit and legacy will endure through the Miss Universe Guyana organization and the many lives she touched. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
