Minister Benn Visits Fire Site Urges Citizen Cooperation

The Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, visited the site near Barnwell North by the East Demerara Conservancy Dam, where a fire incident occurred, leading to smoke affecting the Perseverance/Providence area and surrounding communities.

The source of the fire has been identified, and efforts by the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force are underway to address the situation.

The firefighters have successfully extinguished isolated patches of fire observed yesterday evening, and ongoing assessments are being conducted to prevent any re-ignition.

Minister Benn emphasized the crucial role of citizen cooperation in addressing such incidents, particularly urging farmers, land developers, and contractors to refrain from intentionally starting fires for land clearing and waste destruction purposes.

In the interest of public safety, citizens are urged to promptly report any suspicious fire-related activities or incidents by dialing 912.

Minister Benn’s visit and the collaborative efforts of the relevant authorities highlight the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. Let us all work together to prevent and address fire incidents for the benefit of our communities.
