Guyana Table Tennis Association receives equipment boost from ITTF

  • by

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has received a quantity of competition and developmental equipment as part of the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) global development programme.

The grant equipment includes 10 competition tables, counter nets, umpire tables, balls and racquets. The equipment were received based on a proposal from the GTTA to develop and decentralise the sport in Guyana.

The GTTA informed that the grant would significantly impact the GTTA’s development and decentralisation efforts, allowing for the expansion of programmes in athletic training, talent identification and selection.

It will also aid in the hosting of domestic and international competitions, coordinated national team training, club development and other key areas.

“With the nearing completion of the table tennis facility at Woolford Avenue facility, this would also significantly boost the association’s development efforts,” the GTTA expressed.

According to the GTTA, the grant is a vital component of the strategic plan to host and take national competitions and training camps to other parts of the country with the provision of competition tables.

Areas expected to benefit are Berbice, Bartica and Region Two.

The GTTA extended appreciation to the efforts of ITTF Americas Development Officers Luisanna Perez and Carlos Esnard, along with Katarzyna Kubas-Ziemiańska, ITTF Head of Development Projects, for supporting and lobbying Guyana’s proposal.

Mention was also made of Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr. for facilitating the tax waivers.
