In a bid to enhance educational opportunities and strengthen bilateral ties, the governments of Guyana and China have announced an extension of their collaborative scholarship program. Through the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China program, a limited number of scholarships are now available for Guyanese citizens to pursue master’s degree studies for the academic year 2024 to 2025.

The scholarship program covers a range of fields, including Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Ecology, Geospatial Information Science, and Energy and Power Engineering. These courses are designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge in high-demand sectors.

One of the key highlights of this program is the assurance of gainful employment upon completion of studies. Successful graduates are guaranteed employment opportunities by the government upon their return to Guyana, contributing to the country’s workforce and development.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with a strong academic background. Additionally, applicants must be 45 years old or younger and hold a valid Guyana Passport.

Interested individuals are required to register and complete the online application process through the Ministry of Public Service’s website (http://mps.gov.gy/). The deadline for applications is April 7, 2024.

This initiative underscores the commitment of both governments to providing free and equitable education to their citizens while fostering international cooperation in education and other sectors. It also promotes cultural exchange and mutual understanding, as evidenced by the positive interactions between Guyanese and Chinese students in previous years. In 2023 alone, over 100 Guyanese students benefited from this partnership, further solidifying the bond between the two nations.
