In an exemplary display of swift response and professionalism, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recently executed a critical medical evacuation (medevac) operation in Kurutuku, coming to the aid of a female resident in urgent need of medical attention.
The challenging conditions, particularly the extremely low water levels, posed significant obstacles for conventional travel by water to the nearest health facility. Under normal circumstances, reaching the facility would have required a daunting journey lasting two to three days. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, local authorities sought assistance from the Guyana Defence Force.
Responding promptly to the distress call, Helicopter 8R-MIA was dispatched from Timehri to the Kurutuku area. Upon arrival at Base Camp Ayanganna at 13:05 hrs, the GDF had already coordinated a seamless operation, with a fully equipped ambulance standing by.
The patient was swiftly and safely transferred from the helicopter to the waiting ambulance, which promptly transported her to the Georgetown Public Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
This successful medevac operation underscores the indispensable role played by the Guyana Defence Force in addressing not only security challenges but also urgent humanitarian needs. The GDF’s unwavering commitment to serving the people of Guyana, even in the face of formidable obstacles, reaffirms its dedication to ensuring the well-being of all citizens.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the men and women of the Guyana Defence Force for their unwavering dedication and professionalism in executing this life-saving mission.
