The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into a tragic accident that occurred at approximately 19:15 hrs on Sunday evening on the #64 Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice. The incident resulted in the untimely death of motorcyclist Jaggat Narine.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Jaggat Narine, a 66-year-old resident of #64 Village, Corentyne, was operating his motorcycle, bearing registration number CH 7631. Another motorcyclist involved in the collision was identified as David Rambasdeo, a 21-year-old from Johanna North Black Bush Polder, Corentyne. The registration number of Rambasdeo’s motorcycle remains unknown at this time.

Initial findings indicate that Rambasdeo was traveling southbound along the eastern drive lane at a high speed when Narine, exiting from an access road onto the main road, collided with him. The collision caused both motorcyclists to fall onto the road surface, resulting in injuries to their bodies.

Public-spirited citizens rendered assistance, with Rambasdeo being transported to the Skeldon Public Hospital while conscious. He received medical attention from an attending physician and is currently under observation at the hospital.

Tragically, Jaggat Narine was found unconscious at the scene and was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead upon arrival. His body now lies at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing as authorities seek to ascertain further details and establish any contributing factors.

The GPF urges anyone with pertinent information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
