In a gruesome incident, 43-year-old Chetram Ramjattan, also known as ‘Buck Crab, ‘ was brutally murdered, and his disfigured and decomposed body was discovered inside a drain in Kilcoy, Corentyne Berbice, Region Six. Two Venezuelan nationals, identified as Simon Wills, 28, and Henry Venezuela, 25, both laborers attached to a chicken enterprise, have reportedly confessed to the crime. A female Venezuelan national is also in police custody.
Ramjattan’s body was found at the rear of the property where the suspects lived. The sister of the deceased, Kamaldai Ramjattan, shared with the News Room that her brother had left home on Saturday, November 25, informing her that he was going to their brother’s nearby house. When he did not return, her daughter went in search of him.
The foreign nationals residing at the house reportedly denied entry to Kamaldai’s daughter. Suspecting foul play, Kamaldai’s son confronted one of the Venezuelans, leading to a confession about the murder and the disposal of the body in a trench. The police were promptly informed, and Ramjattan’s butchered remains were discovered in a drain at the back of the property. His face and head were severely disfigured, with numerous chop wounds covering his body.
The sister revealed that her brother, who did not know the suspects, had a confrontation with the children at the house on Saturday. Allegedly, the children threw bricks at him, and when he entered the yard to address the situation with their mother, he was assaulted with an iron bar by the Venezuelan woman.
The motive behind the brutal murder is believed to be linked to a request for a cigarette made by Ramjattan. The sister suggested that her brother, who had a history of substance abuse, may have encountered hostility when asking the suspects for a cigarette.
The police investigation is ongoing as the community grapples with the shock and horror of this tragic incident.
