Firearm Found in Vehicle Stop in Sophia

At approximately 11:20 am today, a police team comprising an Assistant Superintendent, a Sergeant, and two Constables were conducting a motor vehicle patrol along Dennis Street near the Sophia Exhibition Centre’s northern entrance. During their patrol, they noticed a black Premio motor car with heavily tinted windows, bearing Registration #PAE 3982, traveling west on Dennis Street.

Suspecting something amiss, the officers intercepted the vehicle and observed the driver, identified as Rudy Vandermeer, a 28-year-old Taxi Driver from Norton Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, and another occupant, Michael Hopkinson, a 27-year-old unemployed individual residing on Princess Street and ‘A’ Field, Sophia, seated in the front passenger seat, behaving suspiciously.

Upon requesting a search of both individuals and the vehicle for any illicit items, they consented. Subsequently, a search revealed a .38 Taurus firearm with three matching rounds of .38 Ammunition concealed under Michael Hopkinson’s shirt, tucked into his right waist.

When questioned, Hopkinson confirmed he did not possess a firearm license. Consequently, he was arrested and taken to the Tukeyen Police Station for further processing, along with the vehicle’s driver, who is currently aiding the investigation.
