In an endeavor to fulfill the dreams of many Guyanese seeking residential properties, the first ‘Dream Realised’ House Lot Allocation exercise commenced in the new Wales Housing Development Scheme on the West Bank of Demerara. By the end of the day, 1,500 individuals from Region Three will become proud recipients of residential house lots.
Citizens from within Region Three were cordially invited to the Regional Housing Office compound in Klein Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, where they eagerly awaited their allocations. The beneficiaries were meticulously selected from the agency’s database, with applications dating back to 2019 and prior, ensuring fair distribution across low, moderate, and middle-income brackets.
The Wales Housing Development Scheme, upon completion, will feature a plethora of amenities including recreational spaces, playgrounds, a Police Station, Fire Station, Health Centre, Daycare/Nursery, Primary & Secondary Schools, Post Office, and Magistrate Court. The scheme, boasting approximately 4,700 lots, is divided into two phases, with Phase Two earmarked for allocation during this exercise. Concurrently, infrastructure works are underway in both Phase One and Two.
The allocation of lots in the scheme will gradually continue, with the aim of addressing the backlog of pending applications in the region, which currently stands at approximately eleven thousand six hundred.
Strategically located just 14 miles west of Georgetown and in close proximity to the soon-to-be-completed new Demerara River Bridge, the Wales Housing Development holds promise for future residents. An estimated $11.2 billion worth of infrastructure work is expected to be executed in Phase Two, encompassing roads, drainage systems, culverts, and bridges.
The opening ceremony of the allocation exercise was graced by Ministers Hon. Collin Croal and Hon. Susan Rodrigues, alongside distinguished officials including Permanent Secretary Mr. Bishram Kuppen, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority Mr. Sherwyn Greaves, and Regional Chairman Mr. Inshan Ayube.
