Working People’s Alliance (WPA) activist Kidackie Amsterdam was Tuesday arrested following threats made by a caller on his show and Attorney General Anil Nandlall explained the man is also culpable because he provided the platform for the inciteful remarks.
During a recent social media programme, based on a video released by the Police, Amsterdam was engaging a male caller on his show who said President Ali, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Attorney General Anil Nandlall and Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh should be beheaded.
The Attorney General said Amsterdam had a responsibility to cut short the call, though he acknowledged the caller’s comments could not have been predicted.
Since the caller was “entertained,” Nandlall said Amsterdam became culpable too.
“You are responsible, equally with them, for what they say… because had it not been for your platform, they would not have been able to say what they are saying,” the Attorney General said.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said Amstersdam was arrested after he allegedly incited the murder of President Ali and other officials.
The Police Force noted that ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department contacted Amsterdam at his recording studio at Annandale, East Coast of Demerara on Tuesday. The man was told of the allegations levelled against him and arrested.
He is accused of using a computer system to transmit words spoken by video that encourages or incites any person to commit the offence of murder against the President and members of government; and, using a computer system to disseminate information knowing the same to be false.
Police said these matters are being treated very seriously.
