Two Men Charged for Murder of Nateram Persaud at Canal 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara.

In connection to the tragic incident that transpired on December 31, 2023, at Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara, Otto Pitman, known as ‘One Dan,’ and Oliver Franklyn have been charged with the murder of Natram Persaud. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into an alleged murder committed during the course or furtherance of a robbery on Natram Persaud, along with the attempted murder of Manipual Ramberhak.
Otto Pitman, a 35-year-old resident of Lot 50 School Street, Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, was apprehended on January 3, 2024. Today, he was formally charged under Section 100 (1)(c)(i) of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01 for the murder of Nateram Persaud. Pitman appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-En-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He did not enter a plea and has been remanded to prison until February 7, 2024.
Oliver Franklyn, a 49-year-old Taxi Driver residing at Lot 276 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was arrested on January 1, 2024. He, too, has been charged under Section 100 (1)(c)(i) of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01 for the murder of Nateram Persaud. Franklyn appeared before Magistrate McGusty at Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, did not plead, and was remanded to prison until February 7, 2024.
The legal proceedings have been transferred to the Wales Magistrate’s Court for further adjudication.
