Tragic Fire in Beterverwagting Claims Life of Elderly Man

From the Guyana Fire Service : In the early hours of today, at approximately 4:00 hrs, the Guyana Fire Service promptly responded to a distress call reporting a building fire at West Half Plot OBAZ, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara.

Water Carrier #16 and Water Tender #105, along with their dedicated crews, rushed to the scene, carrying 1703 liters of water to combat the blaze.

Upon arrival, firefighting personnel, including Leading Fireman Legal, Leading Fireman Petrie, and five others, were met with a harrowing sight: a wooden and concrete two-storey building engulfed in flames. They wasted no time and immediately initiated firefighting operations.

Sadly, the sole occupant and owner of the residence, Moses Elias, aged 84, lost his life in the fire. Despite the courageous efforts of the firefighting teams, the structure and all its contents were consumed by the inferno.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be malicious, although the identity of the perpetrator(s) remains unknown at this time.

The flames were eventually quelled using one jet from Water Carrier #16 and two jets from Light Pump #126, drawing water from an open water source.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident, and we extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
