A 33-year-old taxi driver was nabbed with 116.6 kilogrammes (or about 257 pounds) of marijuana at the No. 45 Public Road, East Berbice- Corentyne.
The man was driving a silver grey Toyota Spacio (#HD 732).
Police ranks stopped the driver along the public road and embarked on a search of his vehicle.
Seven rice bags which contained 53 brick-like parcels wrapped in transparent plastic were found. It was suspected that the bags contained cannabis.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody.
The parcels were weighed and amounted to 11.6 kilogrammes, carrying a street value of about $34.9 million.
Investigations are continuing.
