Harold Simmons, 45, a security guard from Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice was Thursday charged with the capital offense of murder after he reportedly beat a man to death for “monkey antics” at a popular night club.

Simmons appeared at the Whim Magistrate Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty. He was unrepresented and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

He was remanded to prison until August 8, 2024, which is the date set for report.

Simmons is accused of killing Kaioum Baksh, a 34-year-old labourer from Lot 4 New Market Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice on July 7,2024 at approximately 22:30 hrs.

Devika Manick, the mother of the dead man, had told reporters that her son was at the Shaveh Nigh Club in the company of others imbibing.

They reported that Baksh was “making monkey antics” and was talking hard and using indecent language.

It was then that the security guard reportedly confronted Baksh, cuffing and kicking him and then eventually hitting him in the head with an iron bar.
