McGarrell shared, “This event marks as a significant milestone, not only for our brand Rockstone Tonic Wine but also for all the passionate street footballers that love street football in Guyana. Rockstone Tonic Wine is a brand rooted in boldness, resilience and authenticity. Just as football brings people together through its energy and passion, Rockstone connects us with moments of competitiveness and celebration.”
While the tournament kicks off this Friday, the action will run until the grand finale on Friday, December 6. As such, organiser Esan Griffith of SanSports detailed the tournament’s fixtures.
“For the fixtures, starting on the 29th we’re going to see Team Family taking on Bagotstown Warriors, Agricola will take on Ballerz Empire, we have Pouderoyen Brothers taking on Westside Ballers and Jetty Ballers will be battling Showstoppers. That’s the fixtures for the 29th,” Griffith advised.
He went on to add, “The winners from those, the top teams from the group stage will be going on for the semifinal round which will be held on the 6th.”
Dubbed the ‘West Side edition’ the sponsors and organisers have already set their hopes on expanding the event in the coming years, a plan which was disclosed by the Marketing Manager.
McGarrell divulged, “That is the direction we’re heading towards. Next year, we want to expand tis tournament to other zones and other regions. So, we want to make it a regional tournament to give other players a chance. Because Guyana has a lot of talented football players, we want to give everybody a chance.”
“it’s going to be zone specific for now but next year, we’re looking to expand it to other regions. So, not to worry it’s going to be more of a National tournament in the future. Our next target is going to be Georgetown, East Coast and possibly Essequibo,” the Marketing Manager added.
The teams will be competing for a $200,000 grand prize while second place receives $100,000. Third place will pocket $75,000 and fourth place will have to settle for a $50,000 cash prize.
