Protective gear is the missing factor

  • by

Dear Editor,
Another workplace death. Another family in grief and despair. According to media reports death was as the result of electrocution. It is alleged the aluminum gutters came into contact with electrical wires. Further, the deceased was not wearing his boots or protective gear (KN May 19).
So two employees were sent by their employer to install gutters on a building. Shouldn’t the safety of such work have been checked, particularly electrical wires? Were the employees being supervised or left to their own devices to get the work done?
Too often in these accidents it is always safety and protective gear were not in wear by the injured, and in this case by the deceased. When will they learn?
My condolences to the grieving family.

Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
