Police in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) are investigating an alleged shooting incident at the Port Mourant Market early Saturday morning.
Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that there was a report of a loaded firearm being discharged at about 03:00 hrs.
The News Room understands that a motorcycle was seen in the vicinity around that time and shortly after, two shots were reportedly fired.
An investigation is underway.
Recently, armed men stormed the Port Mourant Market in an attempt to rob a jeweler. The robbery was averted by several vendors who pursued the bandits, chopping them in the process. One bandit escaped while the other died.

One of those vendors was charged with the killing of the bandit.
Vendors have since called for increased an increased security presence at the market.
