Pensioner on e-bike killed by speeding motor car

An 81-year-old man of Stevedore Housing Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has died after being struck by a speeding motorcar driven by an 18-year-old of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.
Dead is Donovan Douglas. The accident occurred on Saturday on the Eccles Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Reports are that the pensioner was riding electric cycle, EM 5336, traveling south along the western drive lane of the eastern carriageway. Police said he stopped at a break in the median and began to turn west, then north, onto the western carriageway.
At the same time, the 18-year-old driver was heading north at an allegedly high speed in vehicle, PWW 3407, and collided with the electric cycle.
The collision caused Douglas to fall off the electric cycle and sustain severe injuries. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were summoned and Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The motorcar, PWW 3407, has been impounded for inspection, and the driver is currently in custody. Investigations into the incident are ongoing. (G9)
