Pedal cyclist dies after colliding with car

Shaman Ally, a 56-year-old pedal cyclist died after he reportedly lost control of his bicycle and crashed into a motorcar along the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara. Police reported that the accident occurred at about 14:45hrs.

The motorcar (PMM 9424) was being driven at the time by 34-year-old Kelvin Hodge. Hodge was placed into police custody following the accident.

According to reports, Ally of Independence Street, La Grange, was riding south along the eastern side of the road.

“He was not holding on to the cycle handle when he lost control, swerved west and collided with the left-side front fender of motorcar #PMM 9424, which was proceeding in the same direction,” the police reported.

Ally received severe injuries to his head and about his body. He was picked up in a semi-conscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and conveyed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Police said Ally succumbed to his injuries at about 17:30 hrs.
