Reshma Chetram-Jagnandan and Avalon Jagnandan, the parents of 18-year-old Jared Jagnandan, are demanding answers concerning the circumstances surrounding their son’s death, which occurred last week. The teenager, employed as a Sales and Marketing Representative and residing at Martyrs’ Ville, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was fatally shot at Shaf Auto Sales in Lusignan, ECD, on March 21, and laid to rest on March 25.

According to a report by the Guyana Police Force, the tragic incident unfolded while Jared and a 20-year-old security guard, now in custody, were present at the auto company premises on the fateful day.

As per the account provided by the businessman managing Shaf Auto Sales, he and his wife returned to the store around 11:10 hrs after concluding business transactions, only to find the suspect and Jared seated nearby, a short distance from the security officer’s desk. The couple proceeded to their office, but moments later, they were startled by a loud explosion emanating from the store.

Upon investigation, the businessman discovered Jared lying motionless on the ground, with visible signs of blood on the lower section of his body. The security officer informed him that Jared had been shot. Prompt action was taken to transport Jared to Woodlands Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident was reported to the Vigilance Police Station at 14:10 hrs.

However, the Jagnandans have raised several concerns to the News Room regarding the circumstances surrounding their son’s death. They questioned why the business owners did not directly transport Jared to the hospital and instead called the security company for assistance. Mr. Jagnandan expressed belief that this delay in seeking medical attention may have adversely impacted Jared’s chances of survival.

Furthermore, the family accused the business owners of withholding information, claiming they have not been provided access to any video footage related to the incident. Their only source of information has been the details released by the Guyana Police Force to the media.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been apprehended and is presently in custody at the Vigilance Police Station. The police also recovered the shotgun allegedly used in the incident, along with ammunition.

The Jagnandans are urging authorities to keep them informed of any developments in the investigation and are hopeful for a thorough and transparent inquiry into the circumstances leading to their son’s tragic demise.
