 New Centre for International and Border Studies launches tomorrow in Georgetown

In an era marked by increasingly complex global and regional challenges, the need for comprehensive analysis and research has never been more critical. Recognizing this need and a growing demand for knowledge production and knowledge sharing, a group of academics, practitioners and professionals from the Caribbean, Latin America, The United States of America, Asia and Africa have come together to form the Centre for International and Border Studies (CIBS).

This independent ’ think tank’  aims to undertake rigorous  evidence- based research focused on political, economic and social challenges within the regional and international community.

CIBS will seek to interrogate issues including borders and border security, the environment and climate change, migration, energy and food security, trade and economic development,  among other major issues.

CIBS also aims to build strategic institutional linkages and to provide training and mentorship opportunities for young researchers and practitioners.

CIBS will be launched on Monday, May 13 2024 at Herdmanston Lodge in Georgetown.

Dr. Mark Kirton, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences , University of Guyana, and former Director of the Institute of International Relations at the University of the West Indies, has been named as the first Director of the Centre.

Mr. Carl Greenidge, Advisor to the   government of Guyana on borders, will deliver the feature presentation at the launch.
