A 26-year-old miner was recently nabbed with 2.035 kilogrammes (or about 4.5 pounds) of marijuana he had in his possession while travelling in a Route 72 minibus.
Police Headquarters reported that ranks at the Mango Landing Police Outpost, Region Eight (Potaro- Siparuni) stopped a minibus (#BAF 4473) at a checkpoint.
The bus was driven by Roger Smith and had four passengers, the miner and three others.
A search was carried out on the passengers and their belongings but nothing illegal was found. While searching the engine compartment of the bus, however, two plastic-wrapped parcels, which, when removed, were checked and found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The driver and passengers were questioned and the miner claimed ownership of the narcotics found. The 26-year-old was then told of the offense committed, cautioned, and arrested.
He was later escorted along with the driver and suspected cannabis to Mahdia Police Station where the cannabis were weighed. The narcotics were photographed, marked, sealed, and lodged.
The 26-year-old remains in custody as investigations continue.
