Daniel Badley, a 19-year-old of Second Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara and Quamina Street, Beterverwagting East Coast Demerara was charged along with two juveniles, 14 and 15, for the murder of John Williams on May 11, 2024, at Commerce Street, Georgetown.
The trio appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Annette Singh, where the indictable charge was read to them; they were not required to enter a plea.
The two juveniles were remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre while Daniel Badley was remanded to Prison. The matter was adjourned to June 07, 2024.
The 33-year-old machine operator of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was stabbed to death during a robbery.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said Williams was walking Water Street with a green haversack on his back. He turned east onto Commerce Street and was confronted by the three teens from behind.
It is alleged that the 15-year-old held on to Williams’ haversack but he put up a resistance and as a result one of the suspects stabbed him in his left upper chest, with a knife. Williams immediately fell face down on the roadway.
The teen boys walked away in an eastern direction and escaped.
The Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, and Williams was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor of Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
