Working People’s Alliance (WPA) activist Kidackie Amsterdam, on whose social media show a man threatened the life of the President, the Vice President and two ministers, was Thursday charged with a cybercrime and released on $200,000 bail; additional charges are likely.

Amsterdam, a 46-year-old Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Police Headquarters reported that Amsterdam was charged with the offence of using a computer system to incite persons to commit a criminal offence against the President of Guyana.

The charge was read to him and he pleaded not guilty. He was then placed on $200,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to June 10, 2024 for statements and transferred to Georgetown Magistrates’ Court #1.

Additional charges are slated to be filed against him, Police said.

During a recent social media programme, based on a video released by the Police, Amsterdam was engaging a male caller on his show who said President Ali, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Attorney General Anil Nandlall and Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh should be beheaded.

He was arrested on Tuesday.
