The tragic passing of 14-year-old Mia Janin has deeply saddened the community. The inquest into her death at Barnet Coroner’s Court has shed light on disturbing details of alleged cyber-bullying that Mia endured before her passing.

According to statements from Mia’s friends, read out at the inquest, Mia was reportedly bullied by fellow pupils at the Jewish Free School (JFS) in Kenton, north-west London. The friends claimed that Mia was mocked in a Snapchat group chat, where male pupils from JFS allegedly made fun of her TikTok video. They further mentioned that the group chat was used to share nude photos of girls, and girls’ faces were Photoshopped onto the bodies of pornography performers.
The inquest revealed that Mia posted a TikTok video, and negative comments from fellow pupils reportedly followed. Her father, Mariano Janin, mentioned that Mia expressed a desire to move schools after returning home on March 11, 2021. The family considered homeschooling Mia for the remainder of the school year and exploring options for her to join a new school.
The tragic incident occurred hours later, and Mia was found deceased in her family home. The inquest proceedings will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mia Janin’s death.
