After robust engagements with several groups locally, United States Congressman Jonathan Jackson said he trusts the leadership of President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
And the US official said he will soon offer his recommendations for possible programmes and policies to President Ali.
“I trust in the leadership of President Ali.
“I’m glad that he has been receptive to inviting me; he has encouraged me to meet with the opposition, and I’m glad that he asked me to come back and report to him directly on recommendations and thoughts,” the Congressman told the News Room during an interview before his departure on Tuesday.
His recommendations will be based on his engagements with President Ali and his cabinet, members of the Parliamentary Opposition, private sector players and residents of Mocha on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) and Albouystown, Georgetown.
Based on those engagements, Congressman Jackson opined that all stakeholders are interested in the same goal: a better Guyana for all people. As such, he hopes to share his views and help local groups work together.
“I will be proposing some initiatives that I think could be beneficial for the people of Guyana and for his (President Ali’s) administration,” the Congressman said.
The Congressman, who is the son of prominent US Civil Rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, was invited to Guyana for several days by President Ali. He participated in Guyana’s 58th Independence Anniversary celebrations and engaged both the government and opposition.
