Guyanese quartet targets improvement at World Junior Squash Championships

  • by

A talented quartet of Guyanese squash players, led by Caribbean Under-19 Champion Nicholas Verwey, aims to improve performances at the World Junior Squash Championships in Houston from July 12-23.

Michael Alphonso Jr., Louis DaSilva and Mohryan Baksh, all looking to make their mark on the world stage, will join Verwey at the event.

The players arrived in Houston fresh from impressive performances at the recent Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships, held in the British Virgin Islands.

This is Verwey and Alphonso’s second World Junior Championship appearance, having competed in France last year.

Shomari Wiltshire and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal also represented Guyana in 2023.

Notably, the World Junior Championships alternate between featuring the Men’s and Women’s categories each year.

This year, Guyana will be competing in both individual and team events.

All four players were excited about testing their skills against the world’s best juniors while gaining valuable insights from their international peers.
