Guyana Fire Service Concludes Annual Officers’ Conference with Focus on Innovation and Resilience
Today marked the conclusion of the annual Officers’ Conference of the Guyana Fire Service, held under the theme “Adapting to change, leading with innovation and resilience”. The conference, which spanned several days, provided a platform for senior officers to strategize and collaborate on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Fire Service.
On the second day of the conference, senior officers engaged in presentations focusing on their respective departments and participated in a team-building tabletop exercise. Divided into three groups, officers brainstormed ways to achieve the outlined ten-point strategic plan, considering realistic possibilities, available resources, and potential challenges. Together, they developed plans and concepts aligned with the organization’s main goals and objectives.
Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to the officers for their support and active participation throughout the conference. He stressed the importance of creating a concept document to outline the steps required to operationalize the Strategic Plan, aiming to improve the Fire Service’s operational standards. Wickham charged Divisional Officers with leading this effort and urged all attendees to work diligently towards achieving the outlined plans and goals.
Acknowledging the contributions of various departments and individuals to the success of the conference, Wickham extended thanks to the IT department, servers, cooks, and Emergency Medical Technicians. He particularly appreciated the hospitality and meal preparation provided by the police and thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs for their ongoing support.
In his motivational address, Wickham encouraged all attendees to embrace their roles as officers, managers, and leaders, setting an example for progressive development within the Fire Service.
