Grand Coastal cops hotel, restaurant of the year awards from THAG

Grand Coastal Hotel is proud to announce it has been named both Hotel of the Year and Restaurant of the Year at the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Awards Dinner held on June 1, 2024. These prestigious awards come on the heels of receiving the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award 2024, which placed Grand Coastal Hotel in the top 10% of hotels worldwide.

The THAG Awards recognise excellence in the tourism and hospitality industry in Guyana, with winners selected based on votes from members of the association. This peer recognition makes these awards particularly meaningful, as they reflect the high regard and respect from the counterparts within the industry.

This marks the second time Grand Coastal Hotel has received THAG’s Hotel of the Year award.

Kevin Daby, CEO of Grand Coastal Hotel, expressed his gratitude, stating, “As a Guyanese-owned business competing against new and international brands in our rapidly evolving hospitality industry, we are deeply honoured to be recognised as Hotel of the Year and Restaurant of the Year. “These accolades are also a validation of our ongoing efforts to perfect our product. We have recruited a new Executive Chef, Fabio Sarmiento from Peru, whose international training and experience have brought a fresh perspective to our restaurant. While we are known for Guyanese cuisine, especially in our weekly “Flavours of Guyana” creole buffet and Sunday Brunch buffet, Chef Fabio’s direction of the kitchen introduces new cuisines influenced by Guyanese ingredients and tastes.”

Over the past few years in the hotel’s post-pandemic recovery phase, Grand Coastal Hotel has also embarked on a massive renovation project, significantly upgrading the property. The first phases of the renovation included new standard rooms, updated features and finishes, and a brand-new expanded kitchen, which has enabled the hotel to increase speed, efficiency and productivity in its food and beverage operations by up to 100%.
