Government Pledges Support for Families of Drowned Girls in Massara Village Tragedy

The Guyanese government has extended its deepest condolences and pledged comprehensive support to the families affected by the tragic drowning of three young girls in Massara Village, North Rupununi, Region Nine. Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, conveyed the government’s profound sadness during interactions with the bereaved families on Wednesday.

Minister Edghill, accompanied by officials, met with the parents and siblings of five-year-old Michele Jeffreys, nine-year-old Alicia Dorrick, and their six-year-old cousin, Nia Jeffreys. Following discussions with the families and the village Toshao Lenny Moses, it was agreed that the government would provide counseling and any other necessary support to help them navigate through this incredibly difficult period.

In addition to counseling services, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) is coordinating the burial arrangements for the children, extending tangible assistance to alleviate the families’ burdens during this time of mourning.

Minister Edghill emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity during times of tragedy, urging citizens across the country to join in prayer for the grieving families. The government’s commitment to providing holistic support underscores its dedication to assisting those affected by this heartbreaking incident.

As the families of Michele Jeffreys, Alicia Dorrick, and Nia Jeffreys mourn the loss of their beloved daughters and cousin, the nation stands in solidarity with them, offering prayers and support to help them find solace and strength in the face of unimaginable loss.
