Former child star Rory Sykes dies in LA Wildfires
It is with profound sadness that Shelley Sykes announces the tragic passing of her son, Rory Callum Sykes, who lost his life in the devastating Malibu fires on January 8, 2024. Born on July 29, 1992, Rory was a remarkable individual whose spirit and resilience touched the lives of many.
Rory, a British-born Australian, was not just a wonderful son but also a co-founder of the Happy Charity alongside his mother. He was a true humanitarian, dedicated to making the world a better place. An avid supporter of Apple and its CEO, Tim Cook, Rory was also a passionate gamer, particularly fond of RuneScape.
Despite facing significant challenges from birth, including blindness and cerebral palsy, He triumphed over adversity with courage and determination. After undergoing numerous surgeries and therapies, he regained his sight and learned to walk, all while maintaining an enthusiasm for exploring the world, traveling from Africa to Antarctica with his mother.
His inspirational journey began at an early age, becoming a sought-after speaker for Tony Robbins at just eight years old. His story of courage was captured in the book Callum’s Cure, first published by Simon & Schuster in Australia.
Tragically, Rory’s cottage on their 17-acre Mount Malibu TV studio estate, equipped with the latest Apple gadgets, was consumed by the flames. Shelley shares the heartbreak of not being able to extinguish the fire due to a water supply issue with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, leaving even the brave firefighters without resources.
He will be deeply missed by his mother, Shelley Sykes, his beloved pet peacocks Edgee and Mickie, and countless online fans around the globe.
