The case file in the shooting death of Police Sergeant Alex Vaughn remains under review at the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), almost two months after the incident.
The News Room was informed that the file is receiving the required legal attention and upon completion, possible criminal charges for the policeman who shot Vaughn will be determined.
Sergeant Vaughn was shot and killed by one of his colleagues, a Police Constable, on March 12 at Karrau, Region Seven.
On March 28, the Guyana Police Force indicated the probe into the fatal shooting was complete and the file was sent for advice.
Since the incident, Vaughn’s relatives have raised concerns about their fears that justice delay may amount to justice denied.
“Two whole months but no reply back from the DPP, why?
“Only God knows but nothing go unpunished. God will give me and my boys the justice we need because since y’all took his life away from us, it hasn’t been easy,” Vaughn’s widow, Jonnel Singh, said in a recent Facebook post.
Singh previously told the News Room that she is only updated on the case through reports in the media.
Vaughn, who was the officer-in-charge of the Saxacalli Police Outpost in Region Seven was part of a joint services operation pursuing now dead prison escapee, Akeem Wong.
Reports reaching the News Room indicate that the Police Constable who shot Vaughn arrived in the area on a tractor as part of a backup team.
Upon arrival, the Constable claimed that his weapon was accidentally fired as he disembarked the tractor, fatally wounding Vaughn.
The Constable was placed under close arrest pending the outcome of the investigation.
