ExxonMobil Guyana is delighted to announce the successful achievement of background flare on the Prosperity floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel within an impressive 39 days, well ahead of the 60-day target specified in the project’s environmental permit. This milestone is a testament to the company’s dedication to efficient and environmentally responsible offshore operations.
The timely completion of the background flare on the Prosperity FPSO is a significant achievement, showcasing ExxonMobil Guyana’s commitment to operational excellence and adherence to environmental regulations. President Alistair Routledge expressed satisfaction with the accomplishment, emphasizing the application of lessons learned from previous projects to ensure the success of the Payara project.
Routledge stated, “Delivering ahead of expectation underscores the value of the lessons learned from our previous projects, which we applied meticulously to Payara’s start-up. We are committed to delivering results that build on our track record of operational excellence.”
Similar to the Liza projects, the Payara project design is focused on minimizing environmental impact by eliminating routine flaring. This is achieved by utilizing produced gas to power the FPSO and reinjecting the remaining gas into the reservoir to enhance oil recovery, thereby reducing emissions.
The Payara project, which commenced production on November 14, is currently producing more than 180,000 barrels of oil per day and is on track to reach its initial production capacity of 220,000 barrels per day during the first quarter. The combined production from the first three Stabroek block projects has surpassed 550,000 barrels per day, with expectations to exceed 600,000 barrels per day later this year.
ExxonMobil Guyana remains committed to advancing sustainable and efficient energy production, contributing to the economic prosperity of the region.
