Three Guyanese remain in contention for winning an individual title in the Men’s and Women’s category at the ongoing ENet Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships in Guyana.
Alex Arjoon stands the lone male for Guyana in contention for an individual medal but will come at a tall order in facing the defending champion Khamal Cumberbatch in the first semi-final today from 17:30h at the Georgetown Club Courts.
Caymanians Julian Jervis and Cameron Stafford battle in the other semi-final from 19:00h.
Arjoon reached this stage after he got the better of Barbadian Shawn Simpson 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-8 while Daniel Ince fell to Cumberbatch in straight sets (11-5, 11-5, 11-5).
Additionally, Stafford defeated Shomari Wiltshire 11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-3.
In the female category, 2022 champion Guyanese Ashley Khalil is on course for a 1-2 battle with defending champion Margot Prow in the final.
Khalil has date with teammate Mary Fung-A-Fat after she came from a set down to win 6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 against Sumairra Suleman while Fung-A-Fat limited the Barbadians presence in the semi-finals as she defeated 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-2.
The finals will be on Tuesday evening at the Georgetown Club after which all Doubles finals will be Wednesday and the team segment commences Thursday and concludes Saturday.
The veteran category also commences on Wednesday.
