A 41-year-old construction worker was arrested on Friday night after he was found in possession of several parcels of cannabis amounting to 895 grams.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said ranks attached to the Enmore Police station conducted a cordon and search exercise between 17:40hrs and 18:20hrs.
During the process, ranks acting on information received, went to a Haslington New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara house.
There the suspect was observed standing in front the yard. He was holding a bulky plastic bag.
Upon noticing the ranks, Police said the suspect rank into the yard and tried to escape.
He was pursued by the ranks who apprehended him with the plastic bag in his hand.
The bag contained a compressed parcel and ten small transparent ziploc bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspect was told of the offence committed and cautioned.
Police added that a further search was conducted on his premises but no additional narcotics was found.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Cove and John Police Station, where the suspected marijuana was weighed in his presence and amounted to 895 grams.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
