CANU Officers Seize Suspected Cannabis in Operation

On Friday, April 19, 2024, officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted an operation in the vicinity of North Road and Bourda Market, resulting in the interception of a male individual carrying a white bulky plastic bag. Upon conducting a search of the bag, officers discovered several transparent Ziploc bags containing a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The individual, identified as Lochan Beharry, aged 41 and a resident of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, was apprehended and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis, with a total weight of 282 grams.
