CANU Conducts Cocaine Seizure in Providence Public Road Operation

In a targeted operation on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted an interception operation in the Providence Public Road area on the East Bank Demerara. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected cocaine.
During the operation, a canter vehicle was intercepted by CANU officers. Subsequent to a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered several bricklike parcels concealed within a box. These parcels are suspected to contain cocaine.
Following the discovery, two individuals, identified as Adrian Carew, aged 55, residing at 38 Rainbow City, Wismar, Linden, and Cavel Carew, aged 27, residing at 871 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, were arrested at the scene. They were then escorted to CANU’s Headquarters for further questioning and processing.
Upon testing, the suspected narcotic substance within the parcels tested positive for cocaine. The total weight of the confiscated cocaine amounted to 11.204 kilograms.
CANU has stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities work to gather further evidence and information related to the case. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal narcotics.
