Guyana flexed its muscle as the host nation for the 51st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships, winning an impressive 27 medals at Sunday’s conclusion at the National Cultural Centre.
Eleven of the medals were gold, nine silver, and seven bronze, while the proverbial ‘cherry on top’ was Emmerson Campbell, winning a prized International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) pro card in the Men’s Physique category.
Campbell’s success was a triumph seven years in the making and initially was heartbreaking, as he did not win the overall category due to a slight issue with his attire.
However, his well-defined package still swayed the judges’ favour for a pro card, which made him the first Guyanese to win a pro card in the Men’s Physique category.
It was Guyana’s lone pro-card success at this event, as the other likely candidate, Julio Sinclair, had to settle for gold in the Bodybuilding Senior (90kg).

Guyana won the overall title, amassing 333 points to edge Barbados (327 points), while El Salvador (165 points) was third of the participating 20 nations.
Keavon Bess, President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, commented that the championships were a success, returning to Guyana after 20 years.
Bess indicated that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s support was invaluable in hosting the event, and the championships brought the right injection to further bolster the sport locally.
CAC Bodybuilding 2025 will head to St. Lucia.
