Twenty-four schools from Regions Four (Demerara-Mahaica); Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) are set to compete today for a place in the Round of 16 of the Guyana Football Federation-Blue Water Shipping Under-15 Girls’ National Secondary School Championship.
The Region Four group on May 25 will see competition between Ann’s Grove Secondary, President’s College, Bladen Hall Secondary, Annandale Secondary, Buxton Secondary, Hope Secondary, and Beterverwagting Secondary.
In the South Georgetown District, the action will feature South Ruimveldt Secondary, Tucville Secondary, New Central Secondary, Dolphin Secondary, and East Ruimveldt Secondary.
The Georgetown games are scheduled to be played at the Federation’s National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Region Six group action will feature Berbice Educational Institute, Canje Secondary, Vryman’s Erven Secondary, Tutorial Secondary, and New Amsterdam Secondary at Scott’s Ground.

Meanwhile, in Region Nine, Nappi Secondary, St Ignatius Secondary, Annai Secondary, Karasabai Primary, Sand Creek Secondary and Aishalton Secondary will compete at the Tabatinga Ground in Lethem.
Seven schools have already secured their spots in the Round of 16: Waramuri Primary, Santa Rosa Secondary, Bartica Secondary, Queen’s College, New Campbellville Secondary, Mackenzie High and Christianburg-Wismar Secondary.
Last Saturday, May 18, Westminster Secondary from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), along with Bush Lot and Woodley Park Secondary Schools, were the latest teams to advance in the tournament.
Westminster Secondary dominated the Region Three group, playing four games and defeating L’Aventure, West Demerara and Uitvlugt Secondary Schools while recording one draw against Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary.
In Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Bush Lot Secondary emerged as the top team, winning all their matches against Woodley Park Secondary, No 8 Secondary, Belladrum Secondary, Rosignol Secondary and Fort Wellington Secondary and amassing 15 points.
Close behind were Woodley Park Secondary, securing second place with seven points from two wins against Fort Wellington Secondary & No 8 Secondary, one walkover from Rosignol Secondary, one loss to Bush Lot Secondary, and one draw against Belladrum Secondary, to also advance to the Round of 16.
The tournament is the largest girls’ national competition in Guyana, featuring 60 schools and over 1000 female student-athletes.
On May 4, the tournament kicked off the competitive stage of the FIFA Football For Schools (F4S) programme.
