A landmark bilateral business collaboration between the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) and other bilateral chambers between Guyana, Canada and the Dominican Republic (DR) continues to expand, with Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana (GCCG) officially joining the initiative.
The new partnership was solidified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday at the Marriott Hotel during the International Business Conference in Georgetown.
The agreement was spearheaded by Dr. Vishnu Doerga, Chairman of the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, who emphasized the importance of a unified platform for bilateral business chambers in Guyana.
“We can’t have all chambers creating redundancy and leaving gaps,” Dr. Doerga said during the signing ceremony.
“The aim is to establish a better platform for information sharing, ensuring that all chambers have access to the same type of information,” Doerga added.
“This will help smooth the process of organizing meetings with foreign missions and facilitate a collaborative approach to bringing investment to Guyana.”
Ghana’s involvement is particularly significant, as the country is seen as a gateway to the West African region, offering valuable opportunities for trade, investment, and economic collaboration.
“We are united in our mission to bring investment to Guyana,” Dr. Doerga noted.
“Ghana brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that we can learn from, especially in sectors like agro-processing and renewable energy, where both countries are on a progressive path.
“This is truly a win-win situation for all involved.”
The addition of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana to the coalition marks an exciting new phase for the initiative, which originally brought together business chambers from Suriname, Guyana, Canada, and the Dominican Republic in July.
Ghana, Doerga said, is an attractive partner for business chambers in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Marcia Krager, the Office Manager of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration.
“It is a privilege to be part of this economic alliance, which extends far beyond resources and opportunities,” she said. “Today, we are not just discussing trade; we are laying the foundation for a future based on the principles of collaboration and shared prosperity.”
In addition to Ghana’s inclusion, the SGCC has also signed MoUs with several regional chambers, including the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association, the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Region Five Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These agreements highlight the growing network of business entities committed to fostering regional trade and investment.
