Nineteen-year-old Orlando Samaroo died on Friday, a day after he was brutally stabbed by a miner with whom he had an ongoing feud.
The incident occurred around 14:00hrs Thursday.
The suspect, a 31-year-old miner from Belle West Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara made good his escape. He is yet to be apprehended.
Samaroo and his attacker were known to each other.
According to Police Headquarters statement, the two men had a confrontation several weeks ago during which Samaroo was allegedly beaten and robbed by the suspect.
Since then, Police said Samaroo and suspect had several misunderstandings.
On Thursday afternoon, Samaroo was sitting under a bus shed at Phase Two Belle West with several men when he was approached by the suspect, who was armed with a knife.
The suspect grabbed Samaroo by his jersey and dealt several stabs to his abdomen.
Samaroo was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
He was subsequently transferred to the GPHC, where he died around 10:00hrs Friday, while receiving medical attention.
Samaroo’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said several people in the area were questioned but no useful information was obtained.
